World Kindness Day

Maybe we need to be better listeners… As parents… As friends… As family… And maybe through this one act, we will teach kindness to our children.

Kindness can start small and start with the way we talk to ourselves and the way we talk to others… Perhaps this one-on-one kindness can be infectious. Instead we as adults who weren’t heard as children make big attempts to be heard through social media… And this poses a risk to our children and teens who also want to be heard, because perhaps as parents in today’s world… we too are busy and not the greatest listeners…

It shouldn’t be about whose voice is louder or how many likes you get. Everyone’s truth matters and we should keep sharing, but we don’t realize that it starts with one person listening and believing in us to feel heard and start healing, and if we are not that one person to our children then where will they find it? It doesn’t mean we stop sharing here, but it means we should start focusing on those around us who matter. Perhaps the other children or friends who don’t have that one person… We can’t control the parents or those who still won’t listen, but we can learn from them and be better listeners to those around us…

So for World Kindness Day…

And maybe every day… I’m going to try and be a better listener and be kinder to the world around me… I’m going to turn off work, turn off my phone, to listen… Will you join me?
